ANSWERS ABOUT OUR SPA & MASSAGE FRANCHISE OPPORTUNITY
Deciding to purchase a franchise and open your own business is a huge decision and you probably have quite a few questions. Hand & Stone Massage & Facial Spa invites you to thoroughly explore our website to learn all about our company, who we are looking for, and what we offer. We believe that many of your questions will be addressed throughout our site.
However, you still may find yourself with questions. Our spa franchise team has compiled some of the most common inquiries we get from prospective owners, along with our answers. Explore them below and then reach out to our team.
-
Is spa experience necessary to own a Hand & Stone location?
No spa experience is necessary! We look for motivated individuals with a sales/management background who can train and motivate staff, make marketing decisions, manage financials, and be the face of their franchise.
-
How much money do I need to open a franchise?
To ensure that you are able to obtain the necessary financing that you will need to move forward, we require that you have a minimum of $150,000 liquid assets (cash and marketable securities) and a minimum of $750,000 net worth. This requirement may be higher if construction costs are higher than normal in certain areas, or if a candidate wishes to purchase multiple franchise licenses.
-
How much can I make as a Hand & Stone franchisee? How long will it take to break even?
The Federal Trade Commission requires that we provide that information in a very specific format as part of our Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD). You will receive that document from your development representative. Our Item 19 includes gross sales averages for our entire network as well as average member counts for our spa locations across the country. You will also have the opportunity to speak with our existing Franchisees through Validation calls to discuss their individual unit economics.
-
How long does it take to open?
From our initial conversation to your Grand Opening, the process takes approximately 7 to 10 months. Selecting Real Estate and permit approval can affect this timeline.
-
What ongoing fees will I have after opening my spa?
- 6% (Gross Sales) – 5% Royalty for the first 52 weeks of your Franchise Agreement; 6% (Gross Sales) Royalty each year afterward
- 4% (Gross Sales) Local Advertising
- 1% (Gross Sales) National Advertising
-
Do you require franchisees to be hands-on operators?
Hand & Stone does require a hands-on operator. The number of hours each franchisee dedicates to the spa will vary but at a minimum, our franchisees are required to work 35 hours a week on the business.
-
What initial training is available to me as a franchisee?
Franchisees attend Hand & Stone University for a full 5-day (in-classroom) training program prior to opening their business (approximately 6 to 8 weeks before opening.) This class is open to managers as well, with no additional fees. In addition, each franchisee will work in a live spa, learning how to open, close, daily functions, etc. During your pre-opening week, our Operations Manager will be on-site at your location to help set up the business and train their staff on the POS system and how to sell memberships, gift cards, and products.
